Advertiser Disclosure

How Exeter Auto Loan is paid, what that means for you, and what a typical personal loan can cost.

Exeter Auto Loan is not a lender

Exeter Auto Loan operates a free loan-matching website and does not make loans, approve applications, or set rates and terms; independent lenders in our network make every credit decision.

When you submit a request, we share the information you provide with lenders and lending partners who may be able to offer a personal loan of $500 to $5,000. Submitting a request does not mean you will receive an offer, and receiving an offer does not mean you are approved. Final approval depends on each lender's verification of your information, credit, income and other factors.

Independence and no affiliation

Exeter Auto Loan is independent and is not affiliated with Exeter Finance LLC or any similarly named lender, servicer or financial institution; any similarity in name is coincidental.

We do not service loans for any company and cannot access or manage accounts held with any lender, including lenders that share part of our name. If you have an existing auto loan with another company, please contact that company directly.

How we are compensated

Lenders and marketing partners pay Exeter Auto Loan a fee for referrals, typically when we pass along a qualified request or when a loan is funded, and borrowers pay us nothing at any stage.

Compensation arrangements vary by partner and may include a flat fee per referral or a fee based on funded loans. This compensation helps us keep the service and our guides free. You do not pay a higher rate because you used our service; your rate and fees are set by the lender according to its own pricing.

How compensation may affect what you see

Compensation may affect which lenders participate in our network and the order in which offers or lenders appear, but it does not affect the rate, fees or approval decision a lender gives you.

Our network does not include every lender or every loan product available in the market. You may find other offers elsewhere, and we encourage you to compare. Lender comparisons on our compare lenders page are based on publicly available information and are presented for education.

Editorial independence

Lenders and partners cannot pay to change the content of our guides, and our editors write about costs, risks and alternatives without review or approval from any advertiser.

Our articles may mention options that earn us nothing, such as shop payment plans, insurer installment billing or building an emergency fund, because those are sometimes the better choice for a driver.

Typical rates and terms

Personal loans offered through our network typically carry APRs from about 6% to 35.99% with repayment terms of 6 to 60 months, depending on credit, income, state and lender.

Borrowers with fair or poor credit who request smaller amounts usually see offers in the upper half of that range. Some lenders charge an origination fee, often deducted from the loan proceeds. Late payments may result in fees, and missed payments may be reported to credit bureaus and can lower your credit score. Lenders may also send unpaid accounts to collection agencies according to their agreements and applicable law. See our rates guide for more detail.

Representative example

As a representative estimate, $2,000 borrowed for 24 months at 24.99% APR would cost about $106.73 per month, for a total of about $2,561.59 repaid over the life of the loan.

The example assumes no origination fee and on-time payments. Your actual APR, payment and total cost will depend on the lender's offer and may be higher or lower.

Credit inquiries

Submitting a request typically results in a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect credit scores, while a lender may perform a hard inquiry before final approval if you choose to proceed.

A hard inquiry can lower a credit score by a few points temporarily. You will be told by the lender before a hard inquiry is made as part of its application process.

State availability

Loan availability, amounts, rates and terms vary by state, and lenders in our network do not lend in every state, so some requests cannot be matched based on where the borrower lives.

Lenders are responsible for complying with the licensing and lending laws of the states where they operate. We do not offer services in any state where the service is prohibited. Questions about this disclosure can be sent to [email protected] or (888) 344-8428.
