How Exeter Auto Loan Works

Five steps from a repair estimate to a loan offer you can accept or decline. No fee to submit and no obligation to borrow.

How Exeter Auto Loan works in brief

Exeter Auto Loan collects one loan request from you, shares it with independent lenders in our network, and lets you compare any offers you receive before deciding whether to borrow.

We are a matching service, not a lender. We do not approve loans, set rates or fund accounts. The five steps below describe what happens from the moment a mechanic hands you an estimate to the moment money reaches your bank account, and where you stay in control along the way.

Step 1: Estimate what you need

Start with a written estimate, insurance bill or dealer worksheet so you know the exact cost, then request an amount between $500 and $5,000 that covers the expense without extra cushion.

Ask the shop for an itemized quote showing parts and labor separately. If a quote seems high, a second opinion is often worth the time; our guide to spotting a car repair quote that is too high lists the warning signs. Example: Dana, a home health aide in Dayton, received a $1,380 quote for a water pump and timing belt. A second shop quoted $1,140, so she requested $1,200 instead of $1,500, cutting both her loan amount and her interest cost.

Step 2: Submit one free request

Submitting the Exeter Auto Loan request takes a few minutes, costs nothing and does not obligate you to accept any offer that a lender later makes.

You will typically be asked for:

  • The amount you want and what it is for, such as auto repair, insurance or tires
  • Your name, address, email and phone number
  • Date of birth and the last digits or full Social Security number, used for identity verification
  • Employment and monthly income information
  • Bank account details, which lenders use for deposits if you accept an offer

Information travels over an encrypted connection. Our privacy policy explains exactly how it is used and shared.

Step 3: Get matched with lenders

Your request is shared with lenders in our network whose criteria may fit your profile, and each lender reviews it independently, typically with a soft credit inquiry that does not affect credit scores.

Matching usually takes a few minutes. Some requests receive more than one offer, some receive one, and some receive none; whether any lender makes an offer depends on that lender's rules about credit history, income, debt load and the state you live in. If no lender responds, you have not been charged anything, and your credit score has not been affected by the soft inquiry.

Step 4: Review and compare offers

Compare offers on APR, monthly payment, term, fees and total repayment amount, because the lowest monthly payment is not always the cheapest loan over its full life.

Typical personal-loan APRs range from about 6% to 35.99%, and terms commonly run 6 to 60 months. As a representative estimate, $2,000 borrowed for 24 months at 24.99% APR works out to about $106.73 per month and about $2,561.59 repaid in total. Stretching the same amount to 48 months would lower the payment but raise the total interest.

What to checkWhy it matters
APRIncludes interest plus most fees, so it is the best single comparison figure
Origination feeOften deducted from the deposit, so you may receive less than the loan amount
Total repaymentShows the real cost of borrowing across the whole term
Prepayment termsLets you know whether paying early saves interest without a penalty

You can decline every offer. Our loan payment calculator helps you test different terms before you choose.

Step 5: Finish with the lender and get funded

Accepting an offer moves you to the lender's own application, where you verify details, sign the loan agreement, and receive funds, often by the next business day after approval.

The lender may run a hard credit inquiry at this point and may ask for documents such as a recent pay stub or bank statement. Some lenders fund the same day; others take two or three business days, depending on bank processing times. From this step onward, your loan relationship is with the lender: payments, due dates, hardship requests and account questions all go to the lender, not to Exeter Auto Loan.

What using the service costs

Using Exeter Auto Loan is free for borrowers; we are paid by lenders and partners in our network, and that compensation does not change the rate or fees a lender offers you.

The only costs you pay are those in the lender's agreement, such as interest and any origination or late fees. Read the agreement before signing, and see our advertiser disclosure for how compensation works.

Tips for a smoother request

Accurate income figures, a reachable phone number and a checking account in your own name are the three details that most often help a lender process a request quickly.

  • Use your gross monthly income from all regular sources and keep pay stubs handy.
  • Double-check your address and date of birth so identity checks do not stall.
  • Answer calls or emails from the lender you chose; verification questions are common.
  • Only accept a payment you can comfortably fit into your monthly budget.
